Microsoft comes hard with a iTablet fighter!

Microsoft seems to be fighting hard at the iTablet before it is even announced. We are now shown renders of what is called the Microsoft Courier (by way of Gizmodo of course). This is something that, in mines and other eyes, blows away the concept of the iTablet.

It's a dual 7in screen booklet. Able to use both finger gestures and a stylus (which gives you the best of both worlds...hopefully with the accuracy of capacitive with fingers).

It has a built in camera, wifi, multitouch. It's a very good looking device. What gets me is the convenient book form factor. Making it a breeze to carry around. The ability to use separate screens, yet transfer items between the two. This is something that could set the tablet world ablaze if marketed right, and if anyone has the money to market amass...it is Microsoft.

But enough of my blabbering. Follow the link to see the video of how the tablet works.

Snow Leopard upgrade for Mac OS X ships Aug. 28th for $29

The next upgrade for the Mac lineup (Macbook/iMac) will be shipping on Aug. 28th. They really hit a sweet spot with that $29 price tag. Making it affordable for practically anyone who has a Mac. This OS is purported to have faster speed times in everything from Finder to Mail to Safari! That will be a welcomed improvement to anyone on any computer.

Leaked Dates for Upcoming Verizon Handsets

We now have some leaked dates for upcoming handsets as seen above. Hopefully these dates stick. Be nice to see these hit the market in time for Black Friday. The highlights of these releases:

  • Blackberry Storm 2 - The highly anticipated sequel to the midly received first touchscreen device from RIM. It's sporting a new type of SurePress which uses piezo electronic technology to replicate button presses...without the lag of an actual button press. Releasing in November.
  • Motorola Sholes - The first CDMA Android (unless Sprint delivers with the Hero on time). This will also be the first Android device outside of the HTC camp in US. Set to be released in late Oct.
  • LG Chocolate Touch - Another "iPhone competitor" as some would put it. This phone had been rumored to come to Verizon and if this leak is to be believed, it will arrive in Oct. A bit of info about this phone if you havent heard. It is a long phone compared to other with a 4in screen and a supposed 21:9 screen ratio. Perfect for movie viewing you could say.
  • Samsung Rogue - Should be an upgrade to the Samsung Glyde they released awhile back. A welcome upgrade I might add. This is set to be released this month. Although with August rearing the end...it could have been delayed.

The future of WinMo 6.5/7

It seems a nasty rumor going around is that Windows Mobile 6.5 will be replacing the early 2010 release of WinMo 7 and the release of WinMo 7 will be pushed back to Q42009. The 6.5 will be "revamped" to become even more finger-friendly to satisfy the users that push for a better finger experience.
To add to it...after 7 is released, it is rumored that 6.5 will stick around to be a "budget" platform to compete with Android (which I find to be hard to swallow seeing as Android covers low and high end); with 7 being the "premium" platform to fight against iPhone OS.

I'm taking this rumor with a grain of salt seeing as the mobile OS war is heating up pretty quickly. Microsoft can not risk waiting yet ANOTHER year to release the ground-up revamped mobile OS they have been promising for awhile now.
As far as the two seperate platforms, that too seems unlikely. As I stated above, Android is growing in demand...and with high-end devices (the rumored Rachel, the Hero, Galaxy) I dont think 6.5 is going to be able to just compete with the "lowest common denominator" of platforms.

All we can do is wait and see. For Microsoft's sake, I hope they come swinging with WinMo 7 at the Q12009...if not, it's going to be a long road for them. Especially with Android directly targeting the Windows Mobile crowd, both manufacturer and consumer wise.

Flash/Silverlight coming to Blackberry

So the impossible has happened. RIM will be finally upgrading their antiquated browser to conincide with the year 2009.
It has been reported that RIM will be including full Flash support in future Blackberry browsers. That's right..."full" flash. Not Flash lite, but full. That is very good news seeing as Blackberry browser is lagging behind the pack (Pre, Android, iPhone).

Yet...there is always a bad side to the good side. It has been stated that this browser will not be rolled out until summer 2010 or right before. This is due to needing beefier hardware (which should've been addressed ages before in my mind) and faster data speeds (HSPA/LTE). All I know is that with this...Blackberry will step up one more rank in being the ultimate business device with a top notch browsing experience.

FCC questions reasoning behind GV rejection.

So one of the main stories in the tech world is AT&T/Apple's rejection of all things Google Voice. It has become so big that even the mighty heads at the FCC has stepped in to do some "regulating" if you may call it. The WSJ has posted that the FCC has sent letters to all three parties. Google, Apple, and AT&T. Each addressing the situation. The specific letter to Cupertino is seen below.

Number 5&6 are my favorite questions poised. The approval process has been so iffy, that's it's not funny. I'd like to see some clear, cut listings of reasons why some apps get passed and others don't. And also...I'm still at a loss of understanding as to why previously accepted apps get deleted. Didn't they already get approved. That's ridiculous.

My concluding thoughts is that this isn't going to end any time soon. This just lends more to the fire starter dealing with exclusivity dealings between carriers. It's not fostering a competitive business setting based on pricing, but rather on which carrier has which phone and apps. Which then lets the carriers put whatever price they want.

So what are your thoughts on this? Comment and tell me how you feel. This is my first post. I'll be in regularly to check and discuss with you.

Welcome to Davey's Tech Spot!

Hello everyone. Welcome to my blogger site. I felt that since I always have a lot to say about the tech industry and such, why not start blogging about it.
This is just a little hobby of mines...so I don't expect too much to be done with it. But give me an outlet to voice my thoughts and concerns.

Yours, however, will be greatly appreciated. So don't be afraid to discuss, debate, or downright argue, LOL. It's all welcomed here. Thank you and enjoy. My first related post will be made before today's end.
